Demand Leadership with Conviction and Commitment

St. Tammany Parish deserves leadership that makes well-thought-out, intentional choices—decisions that are guided by strategy, responsibility, and the best interests of the people, not by political convenience. The challenges our parish faces aren’t new, and the solutions shouldn’t be improvised at the last minute. Real leadership means standing by the decisions you make, not abandoning them the moment public pressure rises. It means respecting the people enough to plan ahead, follow through, and ensure that every dollar spent is an investment in our future—not just a temporary fix for a problem that was created through mismanagement.

For too long, we’ve seen decision-making that lacks foresight, policies that shift with the political winds, and budgetary choices that create more problems than they solve. The consequences of this kind of leadership are clear: wasted resources, rising costs, and a parish that always seems to be scrambling to correct avoidable mistakes. When leaders make reactionary choices instead of thoughtful ones, the people end up paying the price—not just in tax dollars, but in lost opportunities, delayed progress, and a community that is forced to operate in a constant state of crisis management.

The pattern is always the same. Leaders make a decision without fully considering its long-term consequences. When backlash comes, instead of standing by their choice and explaining why it was the right one, they retreat, backpedal, and introduce a half-baked fix that ultimately costs more than handling the issue correctly the first time. These last-minute course corrections don’t just create financial instability; they erode public trust. The people of St. Tammany Parish deserve better than a government that operates in panic mode, constantly trying to clean up its own mess.

True leadership isn’t about popularity—it’s about responsibility. If a decision is truly the best course of action for the parish, then it should be made with confidence and carried out with integrity. A leader who believes in their choices doesn’t abandon them when their approval rating drops; they stand by their work, engage with the community, and ensure that every action taken is part of a long-term plan for success. That’s what real leadership looks like—making informed decisions based on what is best for the parish as a whole, not simply reacting to political pressure.

It’s also about respect. The people of St. Tammany deserve leaders who trust them enough to be upfront about difficult choices. We understand that governing isn’t easy. Every decision comes with trade-offs, but honesty and commitment go a long way in ensuring that the public is on board with a long-term vision. Leaders who change course based on public outcry aren’t just admitting they didn’t think things through in the first place—they’re also showing that they care more about public perception than about doing what’s right.

We’ve all seen what happens when reactionary leadership is allowed to continue unchecked. It results in crumbling infrastructure, underfunded public services, and a budget that is constantly being shuffled around to cover mistakes rather than investing in the future. It creates a parish where critical decisions are made not based on what’s needed, but on what’s politically convenient at the moment. And in the end, it costs the taxpayers far more than if those choices had been handled responsibly from the start.

This kind of short-sighted governance has no place in St. Tammany’s future. We need leadership that isn’t afraid to stand by its work—leadership that has a vision, makes decisions with confidence, and follows through with well-executed plans. That doesn’t mean leaders should be inflexible or unwilling to listen to their constituents. It means that decisions should be made based on thoughtful planning and a commitment to the greater good, rather than knee-jerk reactions to political pressure.

The cost of poor leadership is high, and we have paid that price for too long. It’s time to move beyond short-sighted decision-making and choose a future built on accountability, stability, and well-executed plans that serve the people of St. Tammany Parish—not just for today, but for generations to come.

Change starts with demanding better. It starts with expecting leaders to treat their positions as a responsibility, not as a popularity contest. It starts with holding decision-makers accountable for the choices they make, ensuring that every dollar spent is done so with intention, and refusing to accept leadership that treats taxpayers as an afterthought.

St. Tammany deserves more than reactionary leadership. We deserve a parish government that leads with purpose, respects the people it serves, and builds a future that doesn’t need constant repairs. It’s time for leadership that is as strong and steadfast as the community it represents. It’s time for change.
